Shrimpton's Creek Cycleway is a Shared User Path which follows the creek, providing a direct route which is not really possible to motor traffic, and thus it is possible to cycle in a low stress environment to the Macquarie Park area in under 10 minutes from the furthest end of the path.
There are several entrance/exit points along the path into back streets. The path is generally well surfaced and 2.5m wide, though it narrows at road crossings and at a couple of small bridges over creeks. Sight lines are variable and it is advisable to use a bell or voice calls to alert pedestrians, especially at a couple of blind corners. There are behavioural signs to remind users of this and other matters of ettiquette.
Epping Road is easy to cross - the path goes underneath this busy road. There are wo other road crossings (Bridge and Kent) which both have raised chicane type crossings on the roadway, but take care crossing these as motorists don't always look. There is also a very short on-road section (Ford st), but it is fairly well sign-posted and low traffic volume.
Lighting along the path varies from poor to good
The Path was jointly funded (50%each) by Ryde CC and the RTA and is the result of many years work by Bike North and Ryde CC.
The cycleway can be closed in floods. Take care
The construction goes through bush sections but did not remove any native trees.
