Approach to an old Bridge

This is at the bridge over over Orphan School Creek near Canley Vale.

It is in a section of the bike route which loops out and widely through the park at Canley Vale. The bridge itself has steel plates on the deck, some of which look a bit loose at the time of the survey.

The approach has 3 new bollards and then the old bridge railing which is very narrow, perhaps only just a metre wide. When travelling south (away from the camera) the slope just past the bollards where the cyclist is coming down, is quite steep and then a fairly sharp turn. An inexperienced cyclist may not be able to negotiate the bollards and path and may need to walk.

The purpose and use of bollards here is to protect the bridge. But from what? No car could fit across the bridge. We saw a small motorcycle manoeuvre through these bollards and ride across the bridge without causing any problems to the bridge. And yet they form a unusually difficult section for cyclists.

We understand that this section may be upgraded in the future.
