North Connex Southern Portal – Cyclists Provisions

Bike North members Brian Lynne and Darryn Capes-Davis were invited to a project inspection of the infrastructure for cyclists at the North Connex Southern portal where the North Connex enters/exits to/from the M2.

As reported earlier this year, the facilities include a large elevated, dedicated bridge for cyclists west bound on the M2 and an incredible cantilevered bridge and underpass for east bound cyclists. Additionally a new west-bound entry ramp from Oaks Road, West Pennant Hills for riders wishing to join the M2 cycleway in that direction has been built.

Bike North were able to give further feedback on the finer details of the infrastructure and were happy to hear that Requests For Information had gone from the contractor to Transport for NSW.

Opening of the North Connex will be in 2020. There is a good chance that the cycling infrastructure may open earlier than the road infrastructure, with a Q1 2020 opening on the cards.

The work done by Bike North representatives such as Doug Stewart in the initial North Connex planning and subsequent construction consultations will allow cyclists to safely negotiate this complex intersection.

Cyclists travelling along the Hills M2 Motorway will soon have a cycleway that will form more than four kilometres of improved routes in Sydney’s north 🚴🛣️
