After being in hibernation for parts of March to May, the Bike North rides program under the Covid Safe protocols has hit a high mark of 56 rides in June. The second half of May has 28 rides and so far July has 28 rides. Typically for the past years the winter months average about 40 rides per month. There is space for more rides on the calendar – due to the restrictions on the number of riders – most of the rides are full or close to it particularly at the easy and medium end of rides.
The number of and diversity of ride leaders is the key to an active rides program – so it is also a good time to take up the opportunity of becoming a ride leader – with the group size being limited, making the task of managing the group more manageable. Pass on your interest to one of the rides leaders and the rides committee will follow it up.
We will be looking for a couple of ride leaders to assist with a ‘Lane Cove Community Commute Ride’ on Sunday afternoon July 19th. Allowing people who have expressed interest in learning the bicycle commuting route to the Sydney CBD to have a practice run at an easy pace and at a quieter time on the roads.
The next ride leaders meeting will be on Sunday August 2 from 9.30am at the Ryde Community Sports Centre ESL Hall Park off Kent Rd North Ryde (where the last one was held). – more details will be emailed to Ride Leaders.
