OPPOSITION GROWS TO SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE CYCLEWAY RAMP

Regardless of how important Sydney cyclists think it is to replace the 55 Milsons Point steps to the Harbour Bridge cycleway with a rideable ramp, the reality is that the forces being assembled to ensure this project is once again derailed appear to be growing by the day.

An array of Facebook groups, letterbox flyers, posters and email campaigns agitating against the ramp has been unleashed by ramp opponents to galvanise public opinion against us in the North Sydney area and beyond.

In recent months and weeks Bike North News has published a number of articles explaining the process of community consultation begun by Transport for NSW to educate and inform the public about what is really involved with the SHB ramp project options. And now, more than ever, it is up to us as ramp supporters to show the NSW Government and Transport for NSW the extent of community support FOR the solutions being offered. It is time to get rid of this ridiculous and fundamentally unfair active transport bottleneck.

Bike North’s advocacy groups therefore ask, if you haven’t already done so, that you, your friends and supporters go to the Transport for NSW project web page at https://nswroads.work/cycleway and at least complete the online survey. If you wish, you can also make a submission in favour of one or both of the ramp options. [In doing so, please note that Bike North officially favours the linear ramp option].

Though it is hoped there may be other feedback options provided by Transport for NSW in coming weeks, the date by which online survey responses or submissions must be provided is Sunday 27 June, 2021

Let’s end for good this embarrassing blight on Sydney’s cycleway network.
