The Warringah Freeway is undergoing a $1bn + upgrade, but Active Transport is suffering. Under the conditions of consent for the project Transport for NSW must consult with Bike North and Bicycle NSW on Active transport, but they have not been genuine in their “consultation”. Existing Active transport facilities are being removed and an active transport plan, which was a condition of consent, has not been released. Minister Stokes has stepped in and demanded that Transport “reset consultation” on the project.
This was highlighted in a radio interview broadcast on Tuesday’s ‘Afternoons with Josh Szeps‘ on ABC 702. You can listen to the interview with North Sydney mayor Zoe Baker on the link below (min 15:48 to 29:37).
Let’s hope that Minister Stokes’ intervention sees Transport take a new approach to Active Transport on this important project.
