Changes don’t just happen

They come about as the result of hard slog and behind-the-scenes work of Bike North’s team of dedicated advocates.

Tasked with liaising with (often unsupportive) councils, resident groups, committees, state politicians and Transport for NSW, Bike North’s advocates seek to influence decision-makers to achieve improved cycling conditions for all riders.

In recognition of the great work our advocates do, President Phill Hart took the advocates to dinner this week, accompanied by several members of the Executive Committee. Phill applauded the advocates for their persistent efforts and long-term vision. Phill also thanked long-time advocate and BN member, Justin Holmwood, who has stepped down from his role as advocate for Hornsby LGA. Advocacy Co-ordinator David Thomson welcomed on board new advocate Jane Ellis. Jane will be handling all things cycling in the Lane Cove LGA.

Next time you notice an improved piece of cycling infrastructure, say a silent prayer to the advocates who helped make it happen!
