From Naremburn shops we ride down to use 3k of cycleway to Lane Cove Village. Following a visit to The Canopy, we navigate through Lane Cove West to Riverview Rd - a steep road leading down to Burns Bay; very important to check brakes the evening before- this route is chosen so as it miss the majority of busy Burns Bay Road. Cross Fig Tree Bridge which spans Lane Cove River, to ride through tranquil Riverglade Reserve, then on to cross Tarban Creek Bridge and into Hunter Hill Village to view many domestic architectural styles plus see the local white sand stone Gothic style churches. Good river views plus Kelly's Bush.
Only one Ferry per hour, so aiming for the 12.24 pm Ferry from Valencia St at Woolwich over to Greenwich Wharf works well if commencing ride at 9.30am.
From Greenwich Wharf, cross the share bridge over Smoothey Park and ride into St Leonards after crossing River Road with much care, make use of refuge island. From the train station ride back up to Naremburn shops to finish. There are a choice of eateries at shops.
Coffee shops are a plenty in Hunters Hill and Woolwich. This ride is of historical significance, leaders would do well to study up prior to ride. Bail out opportunity only at St Leonards Station near end of ride.
Hazards : I x steep hill down; 2 x 250meters at Riverglades and Burns Bay Reserves ie uneven tree root surfaces in places; and can be muddy if rained recently. No more than a total of ten riders would suit this ride, narrow roads, tight corners in Hunters Hill. Although short on ks the ride can take 3 hours, many stops of interest and to listen to historical commentary.
