Overview

This ride is at the hard end of the med-hard range, and is about 90km. This ride starts out by climbing the steepest sections before a 50km generally flat and downhill section to Manly. The return up the North Shore is a gradual climb to Chatswood before dropping down again and climbing back to Epping. The latter part of the ride will test the endurance of most riders. Monitoring your hydration and energy levels will ensure you get most enjoyment.

This ride starts on the east side of Epping Station. It climbs up to the Pacific Highway at Turramurra via Brown's waterhole before winding its way through the back streets of Turramurra to Mona Vale road. Along Mona Vale Road through St Ives and Terry Hills and into Ku-ring-gai National Park. Down the hill to Church Point and on to the coast at Mona Vale. The ride then follows the coast and beaches to Manly.

Riders can finish at Manly and make their own way back (Ferry?).

Otherwise the ride will continue to cross the Spit Bridge, and head through to Flat Rock Gully (near Cammeray), and onto a mix of the North Shore cycle paths and roads to Chatswood. At Chatswood we turn west and down the hill into the Lane Cove River Park for a quiet amble along the river and onto Epping Station.

If you find the going hard, some alternative end points could be at Manly, or one of the train stations we pass on the way back (it is your responsibility to check for trackwork though).

We aim to average about 22km/hr for the entire 90km distance. Total elapsed time is about 6 hours including regrouping, and coffee stop.

This ride is suitable for strong riders on road bikes or lighter flat bar bikes setup for fast road travelling. Two water bottles and snacks are strongly recommended. Confidence in riding with traffic is essential as sections of this ride are along main roads, some of which have no cycle facilities. Competency in puncture repair is required as regroups are far apart.
