Off Road Cycling Resources - Trailforks

Phill Hart | Published on 9/25/2023

Here is another article our series about some of the resources that help us plan our riding off-road.  So far, we have looked at AllTrails, the NPWS site and Epic Ride Weather.  In this article, we take a good hard look at Trailforks.

Tracks and track conditions: Trailforks

You will want to dive into Trailforks (www.trailforks.com).  It is full of routes that people have ridden already, for you to enjoy.  It’s like coming down to the tree on Christmas morning: so many goodies, just waiting to be opened!

From a very simple search, Trailforks gives detailed maps, profiles and descriptions of the available trails:

Most usefully, it also has people’s comments about the trail conditions, with the date they made each comment.  You can find out what people thought of the trail and the effect of recent weather conditions.  For example, you can find out if recent rains have made the track too muddy or if it is still passable.

It is particularly good at distinguishing the difficulty of MTB trails, using the standard colour gradings. You can choose (filter) the green and blue easier tracks or go nuts on the black and double black, if your skills and nerves are up to it.

Most Mountain Bike (MTB) enthusiasts know about Trailforks (www.trailforks.com).  All the major MTB parks are in it.  On the map, just look for the dense spaghetti-knots of MTB tracks.  Anyone for berms and drops?

Do a very simple search or pinch the map in and out; Trailforks gives detailed maps, profiles and descriptions of the available trails:

You can use this resource for free and decide if you want to upgrade to Pro later.

Stay safe out there!
