Bike North Annual General Meeting

As members will know Bike North operates on a financial year basis with our Annual General Meeting scheduled for the third Sunday in August.  At this time of year your Executive is planning the AGM and preparing reports to members on the year just concluded.

Given the COVID-19 restrictions (with a maximum of 20 people permitted at an outdoor gathering) the Exec believes it unlikely that we will be able to hold the AGM in the usual way in August.  It has always been more than a formal meeting – it has been an opportunity for us to mount a range of rides all finishing at the same place and for us then also to enjoy an informal social event with around 70 other members.

At this stage we are not making any change to the scheduled AGM date of Sunday 16 August.  We will review when the Exec next meets on Tuesday 4 August.

At a formal level our Constitution requires the AGM to be held within six months of the end of the financial year – which gives us till December!  I hope members will be supportive of the current Exec should we have to postpone the AGM.

Your Bike North Executive

Speaking of the AGM, can I remind all members that Bike North is run by volunteers?  We have eight positions on the Executive, plus our ride leaders and coaches, our advocacy people, our social committee and more….

When we do hold our AGM we need people to step up and help run Bike North.  Please do not assume that the current members will just continue.  We need volunteers for the following roles:

  • The three specified office bearers:
  • President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Five other elected members whose roles currently include:
  • Membership
  • Communications and IT
  • Rides Coordinator
  • News

We can also have Exec members “without portfolio” so that the Exec can have the benefit of their wisdom in our discussions and decision making.

Needless to say, with COVID-19, 2020 calendar year has been, and will continue to be, interesting to say the least!

Will you put up your hand to help Bike North continue?  We need volunteers!  Please think about it and email me at any time and we can then talk further by phone.

Annual awards

At this time of year we also need to recognise members who have made special contributions to Bike North through our Volunteer Awards.  Recent awardees are listed on our website: – this will give you  an idea of who has been recognised in the past and why.

Do you know of a member whose contributions to Bike North should be acknowledged and lauded?  Please think about this as well while we update the nomination form.  It will be available shortly!
