The State Government has released the EIS for the Beaches Link and Gore Hill Freeway Connection for consultation until 1 March. https://caportal.com.au/rms/bl . This is a major road project which will have major impacts on the lower North Shore and the Northern Beaches area. This follows on from the EIS for the Western Harbour Tunnel and Warringah Freeway Upgrade which was on exhibition a year ago. Once this consultation is complete, the proposal and all submissions will be assessed by Planning NSW for approval which includes conditions on the project.
Bike North made submission to the earlier EIS which was supported by a submission by Bicycle NSW. These documents are in Bike North’s document library at https://www.bikenorth.org.au/working_groups/north-sydney/ in the Motorways Expansion Projects folder.
During January we will be researching the implications for cycling from this project. This includes both impacts on existing cycleways during construction and operation and proposed and /or failures in opportunities for cycling network.
Transport is commencing Virtual Information Sessions on Thursday 14 January. You can RSVP for one or more of these sessions from https://caportal.com.au/rms/bl
This is a major project with a great deal of documents that can be referenced in the EIS. If you can assist in the document research and questioning Transport, unearthing the realities of the proposal and developing a Bike North submission your help is appreciated. Bike North’s prime focus is the Lower North Shore, but if you can contribute regarding the Northern Beaches implications that is also welcome.
