Spring Cycling Events
Spring is traditionally the season for large participation cycling events, but many of our members have never participated. What is available and why be part of such an event?
Being part of a mass cycling event is a real buzz with so many like minded individuals participating. Courses are generally closed to traffic with cyclists having access to some great courses. Having a goal to train towards can also be a great motivator and Bike North rides provide opportunities to increase your fitness, whether you are a “super-cyclist” or just out to enjoy the day.
Bike North will often have registered teams that you can join but that doesn’t mean you all ride as a pack, given differing cycling abilities.
Bicycle NSW Spring Challenge
The Spring Challenge is back again in 2025 and will be held on Sunday 12th October. Organised by Bicycle NSW, there are two distances available, the 10km course and the 50km course. Both provide the opportunity to ride on the main deck of the Sydney Harbour Bridge with the longer course finishing at Sydney Olympic Park.
Proceeds from Spring Cycle go to Lifeline.

Bowral Classic
Just one week later, it’s time for the Bowral Classic. With distances of 150km, 120km and 85km, this event takes riders through some incredible scenery in the Southern Highlands and is a favourite with many stronger Bike North members.
Yes, there are some hills, but that’s all part of the challenge.

MS Gong ride
This is one of my favourites, having completed it many times. There are two distances available, being the 80km course from Tempe Park and the 53km course from Heathcote. Both courses travel through the Royal National Park and along Lawrence Hargrave Drive over the Sea Cliff Bridge. Not only will you experience a very scenic ride, but part of the course was used for a World Championship Cycling Event in 2022 so you can pretend to be competing against the professionals.
Special trains are available to bring you back to Sydney at the end of the day.
Bike North already has a registered team.
This is a major fund raising event for MS Australia.
