Time to Celebrate! It's Christmas BRD!

Our Big Rides Days are always our most popular and the Christmas one is no exception.
Sunday 1 December, Hill Pavilion Olympic Park - Lunch from 11.30am
Have you registered yet? There are 9 rides and most have a few places left but you must register by 9am Thursday 28 November so that we can cater for you.
  • Our venue and meeting place is the Hill Pavilion above the lake in Olympic Park - map here .
  • If you aren’t riding, but still want to attend, please register at ‘Attending Social (not riding)’ so we can order your lunch
  • Get in the spirit of Christmas and dress up you and/or your bike!
Worried about the weather?  The weather gods might taunt us over the next few days with some rain and hopefully cooler temperatures.  The current prediction is for much better weather on Sunday, so we are planning to go ahead.  Keep an eye on the Calendar; we will alert you there if there is a change.

How will we use our Energy? Opportunities and Challenges

Each year, the Executive Committee takes care to think how we will use our energy in the coming year.  We look for the opportunities and challenges that it would be most useful to tackle.

We call this our Strategic Plan.  The document is a concise, useful guide that gives direction to our efforts for the year.  You can  find the document here

In preparing it, we are guided by Bike North’s aims:
  • to provide members and others with safe and enjoyable cycling experiences
  • to advocate for improved cycling conditions.
This year, we have identified these opportunities and challenges:
  1. Enhance the value of membership. What makes Bike North special?  There are so many answers to that question!  How can we give our members the experiences they want?
  2. Help members feel welcome. It can be intimidating coming on rides when you don't know anyone. How can we help some people feel more comfortable?
  3. Increase member participation. What will encourage members to get out and ride more often?  For some members, what will help them get out and ride at all?
  4. Increase the level of activity of Ride Leaders. How can we make it more attractive for our Ride Leaders to lead rides? How can we encourage more members to become Ride Leaders?
We seek your ideas and comments.  If you have a suggestion or would like to help with some aspect of this, please email me!

Ride Leaders are Key to the Club!

Bike North relies on its Ride Leaders to deliver a varied and interesting Rides Calendar. Recently, twenty of our Ride Leaders met at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club with a packed agenda including how we could contribute to achieving Bike North’s Strategic Objectives.

The meeting was also a great opportunity to welcome Mick Foster (pictured with Brian Lynne) as an official Bike North Ride Leader and to present him with his Ride Leader Certificate.

Ride Leaders must be competent cyclists and have a calming manner but don’t need to be our quickest riders. In fact we need Ride Leaders to conduct rides across all of our rides categories.

Are you interested in becoming a Ride Leader, or is there another Bike North member who you feel would be a great Ride Leader? Why not get them to contact our Rides Coordinator, Brian Lynne, for further information. You can contact Brian by email  rides@bikenorth.org.au
