BBFN is BACK!

Bike North is proud to support Big Bike Film Night 2025 at the Roseville cinema screening on THURSDAY 4 September from  7.00pm.

Join us for a selection of short films of cycling tales from around the world.

Featured this year are our friends Cycling Without Age and the wonderful trishaw rides they provide for less able-bodied citizens.

Proclaimed as “a feast of short films devised and designed for the two-wheel devotee” it has its humble beginnings in Taupō, New Zealand in 2015.  The Big Bike Film Night is now a much-anticipated global Film Festival that brings a love of cycling to cinemas, presenting an array of international movies specifically selected by New Zealander Curator | “Film Pedlar”, Brett Cotter.

Our scintillating 2025 collection contains eight mesmerizing films that are as varied and diverse as you could hope for. With arguably the finest selection of cycling films yet, from the exotic location of northern Pakistan to the suburban streets of Santa Barbara in America, from the soaring mountain peaks of Austria to breathtaking Queenstown, New Zealand to the captivating Scottish Highlands” states Mr Cotter.

Bike North Stall - Chatswood Street Fair – Saturday 6 September

We need your help.

Can you assist at the Bike North stall at the Chatswood Street Fair on Saturday 6 September?

The StreetFair is the showcase event of the Emerge Festival which attracts tens of thousands of people from across Sydney. Main streets of Chatswood will be closed off for more than 140 stalls, a colourful community parade, entertainment stages, free kids rides and many more activities.

Bike North has a stall each year and it is great visibility for the club.

We need people to assist with setup, talking to people and/or hand out material or generally looking after the stall, assisting with pull-down at the end of the day.

We prefer to schedule two hour sessions, each with 2-3 people on the shift.

The more hands the less work for everyone.

The fair officially opens at 10am but we need people scheduled from around 8:30 to assist with the drop off of material and setup.

We generally talk to people about places to ride around the area and other places; new, exciting infrastructure coming (like the SBH cycleway ramp); current big issues. If you think you don’t know enough, don’t worry, there will be handouts to assist and you might discover new ideas yourself😊

Please register your availability on the Bike North calendar event. or email me if you have any questions.

Activ8

September is approaching and it’s time to Activ8!

As one of the Beatles songs went, “it’s been a long and cold winter” but with September on our doorstep “here comes the Sun” and it’s time to get active. Bike North is keen to assist you in doing this. Activ8 is a simple concept but one that is aimed at getting members out of hibernation and back out there enjoying the benefits of a healthy lifestyle that cycling can bring.

Firstly, we are encouraging all Ride Leaders to put on at least two rides during the month. This gives us a massive target of 60 rides! We are also challenging our Ride Leaders to look for rides they have not done recently, to do rides at a different pace or to do joint rides with another Leader. We want to increase the choices members have to do rides.

Secondly, we are encouraging all Bike North members to do at least two rides in the month. If we achieved that, it would mean 1,000 rides achieved during the month, but knowing riders can often be injured or ill so we are targeting 800 rides. Can you do more? Sure, let’s get active and see if we can achieve the 1,000 rides in September.

Finally, The Challenge! Spring Cycle is being held on 12th October, 2025, with distances of 10km and 50km, which include riding across the deck of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This is a great opportunity to experience this and one you will not forget, and you will be raising much needed funds for Lifeline. Getting fit through September’s Activ8 will make Spring Cycle more enjoyable. So how many Bike North members can we get on Spring Cycle?

Keep looking for articles in Chain Reaction on getting your bike ready for Activ8 and, more importantly, ensuring you are ready to Ativ8 your lifestyle in September. There are already some great articles on our web site under “Membership/ Build Your Skills”, which you can refer to.

Through September, we will be reporting on progress and would love to hear from members who have been Activ8’ed. Every good story will encourage others.

Activ8 is almost here and we look forward to every member participating in Activ8.
