Bring a Friend

We all know that doing any activity is better if you are not doing it on your own. That’s one of the benefits of riding with Bike North. There is always coffee and the opportunity to catch up with friends.

But do you have a friend who could benefit from more social contact and exercise in the fresh air? Why not get them to join Bike North as a trial member?

All they need to do is select either the “Join Us” or “Become a Member” buttons.

Trial membership is free and allows the trial member to join any ride, free of charge for up to a month. Obviously, if they enjoy the experience, they can become a full member for a small annual fee.

So during Activ8, why not encourage a member to come along on a Bike North ride?

Activ8 Rolls On— Highlights of the first half

Week one and two of our Activ8 month has been fantastic, with 31 rides being placed on the calendar and 180 riders registered for the rides and hitting the road. Thanks to 15 dedicated ride leaders, the energy was high and the routes diverse: stretching from Liverpool in the west to Norah Head in the north and Mascot in the south.

It wasn't just about pedalling. Bike North members celebrated with dinner and a bike film screening at Roseville, bringing members together off the saddle for a night of stories and shared passion.

There’s still plenty of room to roll. Many rides had space for more, so if you’ve been thinking about joining in, the next two weeks are a great time to jump on board. With another full calendar ahead, expect scenic routes, great company, and the all-important coffee stop.

Let’s keep the momentum going. It’s time to Activ8.

Do you know a legal e-bike?
I thought any e-bike with a throttle was illegal - I was wrong!   A legal e-bike can have a throttle, i.e. be propelled by the motor without pedalling, but it can go no faster than 6kph on motor alone.   Also, an e-bike motor, even on pedal-assist, must cut out at 25kph.  Lastly, in NSW the bike must have a max power of 500 watts.  For more details, see the TfNSW page E-bikes | Transport for NSW.  Bike North welcomes legal e-bikes on all our rides!

Cycling Without Age / Spring Cycle 12 October 2025

STOP PRESS - A Bike North member has volunteered two people for one of the trishaws, but we still need a wheelchair using passenger for the second trishaw.  Thanks to Bike North members for your support.

John Kelman and the volunteers of Cycling Without Age do an amazing job, making the lives of older Sydney siders more rewarding. John and team would like to include their two trishaws in the Bicycle NSW Spring Cycle. This is a huge opportunity to publicise their great work and get more volunteers. Unfortunately, their usual passengers are not available, and they are looking for three people to be passengers in their trishaws (now just one person).
This is a rare opportunity to cycle over the main deck of the Harbour Bridge, and roads are closed to traffic for the entire route. The course is just 10km for these cycles.
One trishaw takes two people, which can be two less able or older people, or one less able and a family member (this trishaw is now filled - thanks). The second takes one wheelchair using passenger. So, they are looking for three people in total.
Do you know anyone who would be suitable to participate as a passenger on this ride? Do you have a family member who would be suitable, and you could be the second person as carer?  You are also welcome to ride your own bike beside the team.
You would need to be at St Leonards Park by 7:30am on Sunday 12 October for the start of the Spring Cycle.

Magpie Season is here!

For approximately 6-8 weeks from late August to mid-October some male magpies aggressively protect their nests and can attack humans. Some Bike North members have already experienced magpie attacks but fortunately none of them resulted in serious injuries.
However, it pays to be prepared. The below links to two websites that explain how to lessen the risk of attack and a map of where magpies have attacked so far. If you are attacked please update the attack website to warn others:-
