Have you been indicating hazards to the other riders in your group?
We would like to remind all riders of the importance of calling or pointing out hazards whilst riding as a group. When registering for a ride, we all accept the warning as to the risk and agree not to put ourselves or our fellow riders into danger.
Unfortunately, riders are continuing to put themselves and their fellow riders in significant danger by choosing not to call or point out hazards, whether it be a pothole, sticks or a walker on a shared path.
On a recent ride, a ride leader (as sweep) observed on multiple occasions several riders having to swerve at the last instant to avoid a collision with a walker on a shared path because there was no effort by others to call or point out the hazard. We were extremely lucky to have avoided a collision.
Any incident for any reason can be extremely disruptive, cause significant damage including physical injury, and you could be the one responsible for it. So please, next time you are out on a group ride, remember to call or point out hazards and keep your fellow riders safe: this in turn will help keep you safe. We all share that responsibility.
