Long endurance ride with continuous cycling and minimal stops. Depending on the pace chosen, this may be your first Gran Frondo, or perhaps training for a cycling classic (Bobbo / Mudgee etc)
This is an out and back route, with a surprising number of climbs although nothing steep. Shared path all the way with the exception of on road travelling into Luddenham from The Northern Road (2km)
Riders should have geared road bikes and be comfortable with continuous riding at ~25 km/h with few regroups – M7 Bubbler (22km), Turn to M12 (29km), and then Great Emu in the Sky (42km) (see picture).
Due to lack of shade on M12 and absence of water bubblers, an early start on a cool overcast day is recommended – Carrying 2 Bidons is a must. Weekends need to be extra careful due to increased users of shared path.
Bubbler on M7, and first rest stop through parklands after leaving M7. Additional bubblers and toilets available at Wylde Mountain Bike Park (just off pathway)
No bailout option, except retrace one’s journey, so one needs to be self sufficient with basic bike maintenance (dropped chain, puncture etc)
Coffee at Luddenham Village Café (toilets available in adjoining Ampol Service Station). Additional options available, Pie Shop, Gemma-Lee’s Cafe.
