Meet John O’Connell, the new editor of Chain Reaction.
After many years of riding on his own, John joined Bike North 3 years ago.  "The social aspects of rides add so much", says John.
His favourite rides include Botany Bay Bacon and Merrylands Brickies.  “I love the freedom to get away from the weekly grind.
And its great for your health!!”

Track maintenance during the Christmas break.

We are quickly approaching Christmas and many people will be taking leave and enjoying a break.
Transport for NSW will also be taking this opportunity to carry out major track maintenance work on both the heavy rail and Metro between 26th and 30th December.
If you are considering using rail services between Christmas and New Year,
it is strongly suggested you check whether services are operating.

Cooks to Cove Greenway - First Look

Sunday 14 Dec 2025 was the official opening of the 6km Cooks to Cove Greenway, a pedestrian and cycleway, in the Inner West.
Judy and I thought we'd check it out and we were impressed.
This 6km route links Iron Cove along the Bay Run at Hawthorn Canal, to the Cooks River Cycleway at Earlwood.

Key features include 3 tunnels which bypass busy roads such as Parramatta Road and Canterbury Road;
sweeping cantilevered cycleways passing remnants of past and current train works; and artworks next to native plantings which enhance the parks and public reserves along the route.

Easy access & signposting to the Greenway will surely ensure its importance in Sydney's bike network. We saw hundreds of people walking with friends, prams and dogs as well as cyclists on roadies, tandems, cargo bikes, and commuters but it didn't feel overcrowded at all.

I can also see that the surrounding cycling structures are all being upgraded as more and more people are realising that two-wheeled freedom is the way to experience life. See you out there on the Greenway soon!
