BIG WIN FOR LOCAL ADVOCACY
SHARED PATHWAY BETWEEN PENNANT HILLS AND EPPING -STAGE 1 FINALLY BEING COMPLETED
Stage 1 of the project from Beecroft to Cheltenham was completed in 2022 but remained incomplete because the link just behind the tennis courts in Beecroft was unfinished and unsealed.
In order to obtain a sliver of excess railway land for the expansion of the new pathway to the required width, Council entered into negotiations with Transport for NSW & Sydney Trains that was extensive and prolonged, but ultimately unsuccessful.
Bike North brought this issue to the attention of Council during our regular meetings and also with Nathan Tilbury, Independent Councilor for Hornsby. Councilor Tilbury is a cyclist and he was instrumental in the recent completion of the 1.5 m sealed pathway between the tennis courts and the railway line.
With the soon to be completed widening of the other (3.5 m) shared path along the footpath on Beecroft Road, cyclists will be now be able to ride around the other side of the tennis courts.
Thus, the shared path from Cheltenham to Beecroft will no longer be discontinuous and Stage 1 of the Epping to Pennant Hills cycleway will have been finally completed which means that Council can now apply for various grant opportunities for stage 2 (Pennant Hills to Beecroft) and stage 3 (Cheltenham to Epping).
A good example of local Advocacy.
