BIG WIN FOR LOCAL ADVOCACY

SHARED PATHWAY BETWEEN PENNANT HILLS AND EPPING -STAGE 1 FINALLY BEING COMPLETED

Stage 1 of the project from Beecroft to Cheltenham was completed in 2022 but remained incomplete because the link just behind the tennis courts in Beecroft was unfinished and unsealed.
In order to obtain a sliver of excess railway land for the expansion of the new pathway to the required width, Council entered into negotiations with Transport for NSW & Sydney Trains that was extensive and prolonged, but ultimately unsuccessful.
Bike North brought this issue to the attention of Council during our regular meetings and also with Nathan Tilbury, Independent Councilor for Hornsby. Councilor Tilbury is a cyclist and he was instrumental in the recent completion of the 1.5 m sealed pathway between the tennis courts and the railway line.
With the soon to be completed widening of the other (3.5 m) shared path along the footpath on Beecroft Road, cyclists will be now be able to ride around the other side of the tennis courts.
Thus, the shared path from Cheltenham to Beecroft will no longer be discontinuous and Stage 1 of the Epping to Pennant Hills cycleway will have been finally completed which means that Council can now apply for various grant opportunities for stage 2 (Pennant Hills to Beecroft) and stage 3 (Cheltenham to Epping).
A good example of local Advocacy.

Tour de Cowra

Tour de Cowra has come and gone and was enjoyed immensely by all.

Many have already booked for next year having had such a great time.

New features this year included a QR code sign on/off that made things faster in the mornings; a wine tasting, then a TdeC trivia on the Saturday and a final dinner at The Oak on Kendall on the Monday and it was fine dining at its best.

A wide selection of rides including a daily gravel ride made the joy of riding on nearly empty roads in pristine rural scenery even better!

These features are likely ongoing and will appeal to all members, young and old, recent or long-standing in the years to come. The new committee structure worked really well and made the workload less for all concerned.  I was the chairperson this year and really enjoyed it, but cannot do next year, so the position is open.  Be the first to send your offer to the BN executive and you’ll get it!!  It won’t be easy to make TdeC27 better!
