Ride out and back to Middleton Grange via the M7 from Meadowbank via cycle paths.
This is a hard ride and should usually not be attempted unless the rider is accustomed to riding close to 100km at the average pace this ride is advertised to be run.
If however you feel you are ready to try your first 100km ride, speak to the ride leader prior to enrolling just to be sure this is right for you.
Route: We ride beside the Parramatta River then through Parramatta Park where we stop for a water and toilet stop. We then go past Westmead Hospital to Constitution Hill and then to the start of the M7 Cycling Path. This section till now might be ridden at the lower end of the target average pace due to the number of people who walk some of these paths.
Once on the M7 the pace may pick up to above the target average speed. Gaps do tend to occur between riders on this section. We stop at the Light Horse Interchange for a water stop. We then continue on till we reach the Cirillo Water Park exit of the M7 at Middleton Grange. This represents half way.
Suggested cafe stop is Middleton Brew at this water park.
We then turn around and make our way back the same way in reverse to Parramatta Park and Parramatta, then to Meadowbank. The group may choose to have another coffee somewhere on the way back.
This ride is mostly on cycle paths and in light traffic zones. Riders should ensure that they have multiple spare tubes in case they have a puncture as glass is unfortunately common on these paths.
Riders should also ensure that they have plenty of water and food as shops are not immediately accessible on the route.
Suggested regoup points:
• Brodie Street
• Parramatta Park
• Cumberland Highway crossing
• M7 Path Start
• Richmond Road
• Bubbler
• Middleton Grange
• Same on the return leg
Riders can leave the ride early in a number of places that intersect or approach public transport hubs such as Rooty Hill, Bella Vista, Toongabbie, and Parramatta. Riders can also choose to exit the ride early by retracing their route. The Leader and Sweep should be informed by a rider if they do choose to leave early.
